  • Description

Kete. Bag. For carrying personal items. Kete is woven from rauara (pandanus leaf) strips with dyed apuraka (giant swamp taro) overlaid design. Small and rectangular in shape. The kete has a patara (serrated rim). Overlaid dyed-red apuraka strips form a row of punarua (row of natural coloured squares, each standing on one corner) along upper area of kete. Another row of punarua sits along lower area of kete.

Overlaid strips form patterns across middle area of kete, consisting of boxes in twill with hetu matariki motif (pattern resembling a star) within each box. Boxes alternate with vertical rows of punarua. Two tatai (handles).
