The 70th Regiment, known as the ‘Glasgow Greys’ was initially stationed at Otahuhu, and later took part in actions in Taranaki (1863 & 1965), Waikato (1863-64), and on the East Coast (1865). They left Auckland in January 1866, returning to England. John Dunn born in Ireland at Boyne in 1824, joined the British Army on 5.5.1842, as a Private (service no 1789) and took his discharge (to pension) in Auckland on 1.1.1865 after 23 years service and received a land grant in Panmure.
