    Rice field clay, ash glaze.

The glaze on the shoulder is brought about by the fall of ash melting into the clay surface during the long firing process.

Makers Satoshi Watanabe and Manabu Suehiro are traditional potters from the Bizen area. They make with local clay and fire in large anagama kilns, which are built into the hillside. These kilns can be fired for up to twenty-five days and take the same time to cool.
