    Union Jack carried at Waterloo.

Associated with Cornet Francis Kinchant, 2nd Dragoons (Royal Scots Greys). Cornet Kinchant was killed during the battle on June 18th, 1815.

The Auckland Star, on 31 December 1927 recorded " GIFTS TO MUSEUM.

HISTORIC UNION JACK. CARRIED AT WATERLOO. A Union Jack which was carried into action by the famous Royal Scots Greys at Waterloo has been presented to the Auckland Museum by Mr. Noel P. Adams, of Wharekawa. The donor is a descendant of Captain Kinchant, a gallant officer, who rallied his men and recaptured the flag from the French who had carried it off after some desperate fighting at close quarters. Among the prisoners taken by Captain Kinchant's men there was a French officer, who fatally shot the captain in the back. The treacherous prisoner was quickly dispatched. The historic flag was later presented to the family of the captain as a memento of his gallantry."
