An intricately carved wooden haft. Square pedestal base and shape. Top of the haft carved out to accommodate the fitting of a toki (adze). Puru akari (braided coconut sennit) of a fine flat iri taki toru (3-ply braid) loosely lashed on top of a piece of shark skin at the top of the haft. Carved surface decoration applied to the entirety of the wooden haft consisting of repeated triangular and 'K-form' motifs (signature Mangaian carving motif). The lashing is natural in colour, frayed and brittle in many areas. The wooden haft is brown in colour. Black paint streak at the mid section of the haft.
