Smith & Wesson 1st Model 2nd Issue revolver (cased), circa 1857-1869
One of the original Smith & Wesson pattern revolvers which led to development of larger calibre revolvers.
IV Hogg: Illustrated Encyclopedia of Firearms: The Smith & Wesson Number One revolver was a .22 rimfire, single action, with the frame hinged at the standing breech so as to tip upwards when a latch at the front of the lower frame was released. Period: 1857-1869
