Tairiiri. Fan. Part of a rakei ura (dance costume). Composite tairiiri woven from rito (young coconut leaf) with parau (mother of pearl) shell grip. The blade is in the shape of a semi circle. The blade is woven from rito and is appoximately 30mm wide. The base of the fan consists of parau (mother of pearl shell), and is used as the grip (held by the hand).

There are twenty-one holes across the top and sides of the parau where strands of rito are threaded through for commencement of the body. The body is woven out in check altering to a two-twill weave to complete the body. The body is mostly rito tunu (boiled young coconut leaf - beige/white in colour) and is incorported with rito mata (raw young coconut leaf- green in colour) forming "X" patterns across the body. The tairiiri is finished with a akaververe (fringe) made of rito tunu.
