    Afa. Basket for carrying food, circular in shape and woven from ra ne niu (coconut leaf). Commencement from midrib which forms the rim and woven downwards. Tie-off at base (visible inside the inner base of 'afa) and finished in a hiri (braid), knotted at each end. 'Afa is woven out in twill with technique altering at centre to form decorative diagonal patterns across all sides of 'afa.
