    Coconut husking stick (English)

  • Kupu whakaahua

Te koro. Coconut husking stick. A koro would normally be wedged into the ground and the coconut would be pulled over the sharpened staff to remove the benu (coconut husk fibre). Made from the ngea tree, this koro is possibly more of a model than an implement of practical use because of its thin shape. This specimen has two sharpened off shoots from the main cylindrical shaft as well as a smooth surface treatment.
