  • Description

Te tanai. Hafted adze tool. This is an adze blade. It is a component of a tool used in cutting hard materials. The adze blade has been cut form te aubunga (tridacna gigas; clam shell). It is triangular in shape. It has retained its natural convex form. Of its longitudinal form, the widest edge has been filed to form the blade area for contact. The blade area is blunt with slight fractures.

The convex surface is flecked with pores and a deep furrow that runs across the centre towards the pointed end that would be lashed to a handle component. The base side of the tanai is concave and smooth in texture.
