Wooden receptacle. This is a carved wooden bowl. It has been made from itai wood (Calophyllum inophyllum). It has an oval rim and is low in height with a complete concaved exterior. Two small circular nodes have been carved out from the top rim and are positioned opposite each other. A furrow has been carved along the node's surface. Either side of this furrowed node are two short cracks from the rim down. A circular cavity features under the opposite node upon the exterior. The interior of the kumete shows braised markings that could define a rasping tool that was used in shaping and filing the kumete. Its surface area is smooth and overall tone is that of a tan brown. There are small cavities spread out across the interior and exterior of the kumete.WāhiBeru/Gilbert Islands/KiribatiAccession Number1936.295Rā Tāpiringa1936Tohu Tuakiri Kē24068 (ethnology)150 (Maude Collection)WāhangaPacific Uiuitia Tāpirihia ki Taku Kete Te kumete; 1936.295; 24068, 150; Cultural Permissions Apply Tirohia ngā pikitia Mātātuhi me ngā tuhinga Mātātuhi Mātātuhi Taonga Taonga Rārangi MihiCollection of Auckland Museum Tamaki Paenga Hira, 1936.295, 24068; 150Takenga ā-AhureaKiribatiKohingaMaudeKaiwaihanga Matua Unknown (Maker)WāhiBeru/Gilbert Islands/KiribatiRāPre 1936Tikanga WaihangacarvedWaitohu/māka24068; BERU IS.; GILBERT IS; DEP (handwritten)Pāohowood/plant materialRaraunga Ine350mm230mm90mmHuinga KaupapaCarving/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Food and Feasting/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Woodwork/- PACIFIC SUBJECTS -Taumata whakarōpūBowlContainerDistribution & Transportation ArtefactsWhakahounga o Mua30 Nov 2018 E hangaia tonutia ana te kohinga tuihono a Tāmaki Paenga Hira; tāpirihia ai ngā whakahoutanga me ngā pūkete i ia wiki.
