Te iku. Rasping tool. This is a hand held tool made of three components: the iku (skin) of the baiku (stingray; dasyatidae), a rectangular form of wood for the handle and te kora (coconut sennit cordage). The iku feature small bumps of varied heights in tones of ivory and tan brown. Small incisions have been made along the sides of the iku where golden brown 2-ply te kora has been threaded through.

The iku would have been soaked in order for it to be pulled over the rectangular wooden handle and lashed taut with te kora, becoming hard in the form it has been stretched over. The handle is of a mid-brown colour. Small cavities are present at the cross sectioned end that has been covered in iku and nicks across the exposed handle end.
