Paul Beadle : Sculptor (Alternate title)

  • Kupu whakaahua

"This book is an edited version of Andrew Greenhough's thesis Paul Beadle 1985 and to whom all credit for the original text is due. Paul Beadle spent some fourteen years in Australia where he established himself as a sculptor working in stone and wood, exacting relief and freestanding sculptures which reflected his training at the London School of Arts and Crafts [...

] The chapter headed The Small Bronze Sculptures traces, for Paul Beadle, the history of the development of the sculptures he created using the lost-wax process which commenced, for him, upon the receipt of a commission from an Australian client to design and produce a chess set. The subject for the sculptures which range from 5 to 50 centimetres in height, is diverse, originating from Beadle's personal experience (which often displays his sense of humour), his knowledge of medieval architecture and religious sculpture, art history, folk-lore, literature and an acute observation of his fellow men who appear encapsulated in their everyday dramas."--preface.
