Lance-Corpl. C. W. Purvis was a soldier in the British Army during WWI. He was a patient at the New Zealand Stationary Hospital, where he produced a series of cartoons portraying life at the hospital, and as a soldier during the war. These cartoons appeared in the Masseydonian Stretcher - the official Journal of the New Zealand Stationary Hospital. His drawings were later collated into a book in 1918.
