"The death has occurred at his home at Glenmore of Mr. George Meredith, aged 69, who was one of the first men to engage in the North Auckland toheroa canning industry. Mr. Meredith came to the Northern Wairoa district 45 years ago, and was for some time manager of a store at Aratapu. He later joined with his brother in the toheroa canning industry on the West Coast, acquiring an interest in a factory already established at Mahuta Gap. More than 16 years ago the factory was removed to its present site at Tikinui. Mr. Meredith is survived by his wife, two sons and three daughters."
