  • Kupu whakaahua

Letter written aboard the U.S. Hospital Ship 'Relief' sailing out of Darien on route to Okinawa. Greig writes to his mother Ruby of the cramped and dark 24-hour train journey out of the camp towards Darien. He describes seeing the 'glistening white' hospital ship and its smartly dressed crew welcoming them in for hot showers and their first 'civilized meal' in four years, with ice cream.
