Personal letter from E. Barnard to William and Jane Williams, January 7, 1856

documentary heritage
  • Kupu whakaahua

Greeting reads: 'My dear Uncle and Aunt,' A personal message regarding Barnard's recent holiday along the Rhine to Lake Constance, and the sudden death of Fanny Covington. He goes on to tell the Williams about the school and his pupil Agnes La Trobe, who was the daughter of Charles La Trobe, Governor of Melbourne. The final page is cross-written and on it, Barnard speaks of Miss Poiret's ill health and of his desire for her to return to work.

Barnard comments on William and Janes movement in New Zealand 'after your long residence there is must seem like beginning life again' probably referring to Williams shifting from the district of Gisborne to Hawkes Bay between 1842-1859.
