Subject Notes
Henry Venn (1796-1873) was an Anglican clergyman recognised as one of the foremost Protestant mission strategists of the nineteenth century. He began his role as Honorary Secretary for the Church Missionary Society in 1841 and held this post for thirty-two years. Venn actively worked to dismantle the Atlantic slave trade, and sought to empower those in the colonies to administrate their own indigenous churches.
