Subject Notes
Catherine Heathcote (nee Williams) was the fifth daughter of Thomas Williams and Mary Marsh. Much of what we know about her life and contributions comes from correspondence with her brothers in New Zealand Henry Williams and William Williams. Catherine ran the girls school at Elmfield House in Southwell started by her mother. She contributed generously to the mission efforts of her brothers giving 700 English pounds toward the building of the Maori boys school at Te Aute and a similar sum for the girls school at Hukarere.
