Finally, Marianne reports of a Governor General being sent out for the Colonies, she writes: "We hear a Governor General coming out for the Colonies a brother of Captain Fitzroy. The Queen would not hear of the Treaty of Waitangi being set aside. No Treaty in her name should be broken, so all the strong efforts failed. Mr [Shortland] is made a Governor in the West Indies."
