Letter from W.E. [William Edward] Haslam, Auckland, to Mr [Walter Kingsford] Hounsall, dated 11 November 1932, regarding the military engagement at Boulcott's Farm in 1846.

    Includes the following attachments:

    (1) - A tracing of the site of the stockade on Boulcott's Farm and also the site of the Taita stockade.

    (2) - Typescript letter from F. Martin, City Valuer, Wellington, to W.E. Haslam, Esq., Auckland, dated 10 November 1932, regarding the site of the stockade on Boulcott's Farm. Martin also mentions his being in the possession of a photograph of a painting, attributed to Lieutenant [George Hyde] Page, of the Boulcott stockade, the original of which was at the time of writing in the possession of Dr [Patrick] Marshall, of Woburn Road, Lower Hutt.

Two (black and white; 60 mm x 100 mm) photographs of the Memorial Stone situated at the corner of the Old Military Road and the Main Hutt Road, Wellington transferred to Photograph Collection. There is also an enlargement (black and white; 165 mm x 215 mm) of the Memorial Stone showing the same but slightly different view to the smaller photographs.

Based on the detail of the surrounding foliage it does not appear to be part of the series taken at the request of the Mayor of Lower Hutt, Mr [William Thomas] Strand, in the early 1930s, that is mentioned in Martin's letter to Haslam. However, it does have the appearance of being contemporaneous to that series.
