Photographs were included in a carton of Castle music library material which A. Gilkison purchased at the Dunbar Sloan auction of the Castle collection (Auckland Museum purchased the Castle Collection of musical instruments in October 1998.)

Brother and sister Ronald and Zillah Castle started collecting early music and instruments from about 1939. Around 1956 they established the "Castle Music Museum" in their family home 27 Colombo Street, Newtown, Wellington
