    Upper portion of a 1 m tall flowering and fruiting plant. Anchusa sardoa is a critically endangered Sardgena endemic of sand dune systems (known only from Spiaggia Mugoni). Plants sprawling to erect; flowering stems purple-black; densely invested in coarse hispid hairs; leaves adaxially dark green, abaxially purple to purple-black, coarsely hispid, leaf margins undulose-crisped; flowers initially pale blue fading to white (often distally very faintly tinged blue-white). Specimen collected from a flowering plant growing within a dune slack amongst Papaver rhoeas, Lotus cystioides, Bromus diandrus and other herbs. In 2013 < 700 plants seen, all threatened by beach resort development.
