Kapa examples
Kupu whakaahua: Kapa examples. Barkcloth examples. There are four parts to this group. Four strips of rice paper: two are yellow and two are a pale orange. All four feature variations of 'ohe kāpala (bamboo stamp) designs printed with red and black ink. The strips of rice paper feature a water marking technique made from an 'ie that appears to have a grid design engraved onto it. All four samples were made by Edith McKenzie. They were produced at a South Pacific Arts' Festival in Rotorua, March 1976. The samples reflect the unique stylings featured on authentic Hawaiian Kapa. A small, yellow, square note accompany's this group reading, "47512.1-.4; 4 samples of Hawaiian tapa patterns made by Edith McKinzie, stamped at the 'South Pacific Arts' Festival, Rotorua, March 1976."
