Description: i Ula Kitu. Throwing club. i Ula are carved from the rootstock of a hardwood tree. It is intended as a weapon that can be gripped in the hand or thrown in short range distances at assailants. This i Ula Kitu consists of a peaked, ball-shaped head and long slender adjoining handle. The head is smooth and rounded with cracks all over the surface of the head. The underside of the head is carved flat around the commencement of the handle. The handle is tapered and flared slightly towards the butt end. The grip of the handle is carved in tavatava (shallow incisions), zigzag in design. A drilled hole is apparent at the centre of the butt. The i Ula is reddish brown in colour and has a glossy patina.

Description: i Ula Tavatava. Throwing club. i Ula are carved from the rootstock of a hardwood tree. It is intended as a weapon that can be gripped in the hand or thrown in short range distances at assailants. This i Ula Tavatava consists of a lobed head and long slender adjoining handle. The head is carved into thirteen concentric lobes topped with a flanged central dome. A crack is visible between two lobes. Surface wear and fine cracks are visible about the head. The tapered handle is cylindrical in shape and slightly flared towards the butt. Several small notches are incised on the handle. The lower grip end of the handle is carved with tavatava (shallow incisions), zigzag in design. The i Ula is reddish brown in colour and has a glossy patina.

Description: Tuluma. Fishing box. Tuluma are a multipurpose container that have many uses in Tokelau. They are predominantly used as fishing boxes for fishermen to store their hooks and fishing tools. Bigger tuluma can also be used in the home as storage boxes. Tuluma all have a similar shape but their sizes will vary depending on its use. Tuluma are carved from a single block of wood, usually taiuli, and are oval in shape, with lugs on either side and on top of the lid which has kafa (coconut sennit cordage) threaded through each lug and tightened to secure the lid to the base. The tight fitting lid, kafa rope, as well as its natural buoyancy ensures that the contents of the tuluma stay safe and dry should it fall into the water. This tuluma is more almond shaped as opposed to oval, it is dark brown in colour smooth and lightly polished. There are rectangular lugs on either side of the rim as well as the top of the lid, with a hole drilled in each and plaited kafa threaded through.

Description: Tanoa Vonu. A large kava bowl shaped like a turtle, carved from solid kau (wood) of a red/brown in colour with four yava (legs) carved at the underside of the tanoa. All around the rim of the bowl are the carved appendages and head representing the turtle form. Fine scrapes and scratching on the surface of the underside and yava of the tanoa. Bowl is curved and highly polished, smooth.

Description: Nifo'oti. Hooked club. This nifo'oti is carved from one piece of toa (ironwood). This nifo'oti is a dark brown colour with a smooth and part-polished surface. The handle of this nifo'oti is thick and cylindrical and is undecorated. The handle then widens to a flat four-sided blade with a diamond cross-section. One half of the blade is lined with triangular pointed teeth. There are thirty-four teeth in total, eight of which are broken at the root. From the handle to the tip of the blade the teeth gradually increase in length. The opposite side of the blade is slightly concave and adorned with mamanu (Samoan decorative motifs). These mamanu are comprised of small triangular indents. At the tip of the blade is one lave (hook). The term nifo'oti is understood a number of ways. One theory references the nifo (curve) of an 'oti (goat) horn as being the inspiration behind the design. While another describes how the nifo (teeth) were used to 'oti (to cut). Traditionally the nifo'oti was used as an 'au'upega (weapon of war) to behead slain enemies and the lave used for storage. Today the nifo'oti survives as a dancing knife used by both males and females for entertainment purposes.
