There are 61 Magnum photographers featured in the book. Each photographer is represented across 8 pages by a photo story of their choice, which is fully illustrated, and a text which is written in the photographer's own voice based on new interviews with the author. As well as featuring the work of individual photographers, this book functions as a history and interrogation of the form of the photo story-- the key vehicle for photography in the twentieth century, from its earliest developments in the 30s, through the death of photojournalism, to contemporary manifestations.

Description: Marti Friedlander is widely recognised as one of New Zealand's most distinguished photographers. A Jewish immigrant from Britain, she was the first to document the changing nature of post-war New Zealand: life in the countryside and the cities, immigrants and locals, the protest movement and the women's movement. Her most outstanding and best-known projects include a series of portraits of Maori women with moko, and a suite of photographs celebrating New Zealand artists and writers. Many of Marti's photographs have become icons of New Zealand life because they get to the heart of what it is to be a New Zealander: the individuality of the people, cultural diversity, creative endeavour and our special relationship with the landscape. Published to coincide with a major exhibition of 40 years of Marti Friedlander's photography (1960-2000), this book features 150 images in several groups: the moko photographs, portraits of artists and writers, Pacific images (from Tokelau, Tonga and Japan), New Zealand heritage (rural and urban), and ordinary and extraordinary New Zealanders. Description: Lee Miller photographed innumerable women during her career, first as a fashion photographer and then as a journalist during the Second World War, documenting the social consequences of the conflict, particularly the impact of the war on women across Europe. Her work as a war photographer is perhaps that for which she is best remembered in fact she was among the 20th centurys most important photographers on the subject. Published to coincide with an exhibition at the Imperial War Museum, Lee Miller: A Womans War tells the story beyond the battlefields of the Second World War by way of Millers extraordinary photographs of the women whose lives were affected.
