Te iriba n bobai
Kupu whakaahua: Te iriba n bobai. Ornamental fan. This is a hand held fan. It consists of four material components: te noko (coconut midrib), te kakoko (the young, white and central leaf of the coconut palm) and burae ni moa (chicken feathers). The blade is circular in shape and flat in form. The blade has been structured with a series of natural off-white te noko that extend outwards from the centre. The structure of te noko has been covered by a weave of te kakoko. An inner circle, mid-circle and outer circle decorate the blade. These are defined by synthetically dyed pinnules in dark grey, pale blue, pale red and pale pink. A few strands of te noko have been coiled around the edge of the blade and secured with te kakoko in their natural off-white colour. This appears the same on the reverse side. A series of burae ni moa curve inwards on both sides framing the circular shape of the blade. Fragments are missing revealing the selvedge's of te noko. A slim and cylindrical shape begins from the centre of the blade and extends outwards forming a handle. A plain woven cover of te kakoko covers the handles spine. Three pinnules of the same material have been plaited to form a small braid creating a loop at the end of the handle for hanging.
