Te reeree
Description: Te reeree. Sword. This is made from the following materials: noko (coconut midrib), wii ni bakoa (shark teeth), nimwaerere (cordage of human hair and coconut sennit fibres), kora (cordage of coconut sennit fibre), irauea (cordage of human hair) and kanni (coconut palm wood). A length of kanni has been cut, carved and filed into a cylindrical form where both ends have been tapered into points. A third of the length has been left exposed and used for the purpose of a handle. The rest of the length features a barbed length. A bind of alternating the kora and the irauea features at the beginning of the barbed length. Pairs of the noko wrap and intersect towards the pointed end of the reeree. Each pair shows a continuous inlay of wii ni bakoa. Each wii ni bakoa has been drilled through its centre where the nimwaerere has been threaded and used to position and secure them and the noko to the reeree. Just below the pointed end, an alternating bind of the kora and the ira has been used to finish and secure the ends of the noko to the length.
