Experience New Zealand Culture

One of Aotearoa New Zealand’s first museums, the Auckland Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people.

With internationally significant Māori and Pacific collections to explore, the Auckland Museum is a must-see place to experience our rich culture.

Auckland Museum is housed in an historical building within a tranquil park which has beautiful views of the harbour. It is a place to discover and learn about New Zealand's history and stories.

Since 1929, the Museum has also served as place of remembrance for the many Aucklanders who have sacrificed their lives in war.

Whether you have an hour spare or a whole day, you will gain a deep understanding of New Zealand culture and heritage by visiting the iconic Auckland Museum!

OPENS WEDNESDAY 7 JULY
AUAHA ATEA NUI, SPECIAL EXHIBITION HALL

When dinosaurs ruled the land, giant marine reptiles hunted the depths of the sea.

Direct from the Australian National Maritime Museum, we’re thrilled to bring you Sea Monsters, the incredible exhibition of over 70 displays featuring prehistoric ocean predators. You’ll see real fossils from millions of years ago, along with gigantic replicas including a 13-metre long Elasmosaur and 9-metre long Prognathodon. With an immersive video projection and over a dozen hands-on interactives, there’s plenty to see and do.

What can fossilised bones tell us about how these prehistoric ocean predators lived? How do they compare to today’s top ocean predators? Soon you'll be able to discover the secrets of these monsters of the deep in this new exhibition that will delight all ages!
