Conditions of entry

Bags and backpacks

The Museum reserves the right to inspect the bags of visitors. Tripods, and bags over the dimensions of 40cm (L) x 15cm (W) x 35cm (H) are prohibited in the galleries and must be checked into a self-service locker.

Usage of the electronic self-service lockers is subject to the terms and conditions.

Children at the Museum

All children aged 13 and under must be accompanied at all times by an adult while inside the Museum.

Events and programmes

If you arrive late to an event or programme, we may not be able to admit you, or we may have to wait until there is a suitable break before you can enter.

The Museum reserves the right to add, withdraw or substitute artists and/or vary programmes, prices, seating arrangements and audience capacity of the event without prior notice. In the event of such changes, refunds shall not be available.

The Museum reserves the right to ask any ticket holder to leave the Museum, without compensation, in circumstances where the Museum considers it has reasonable cause, to believe the ticket holder has breached its terms and conditions, failed to comply with any law, regulation or rule applying to the Event, contravened Museum staff instructions, is a threat to the security of the Museum and the safety of staff and visitors. As a ticket-holder to an event or programme, the Museum may contact you using the details you provide at time of booking to invite feedback for evaluation purposes.

Food and drink

No food or drink is allowed to be taken into the galleries. There are self-service lockers where you can leave bags with food while you explore the Museum. There is an area adjacent to the Grand Foyer coat check where you can eat and drink you’ve brought with you, or plenty of tables for those who purchase food and beverages at our 1929 café. 

Surveillance

Please be aware that recorded video surveillance operates throughout the Museum for security purposes. Additional visitor surveillance may be employed for visitor research evaluation purposes.

Audio and video recording

Please note audio and/or video recording of Auckland Museum guided tours is not permitted.

Tickets

Entry may be refused if tickets are damaged or defaced in any way.

There are no refunds or exchanges on any ticket or service fee (including but not limited to where a ticket has been lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed, or where the ticket holder’s personal circumstances have changed) except as required by the Consumer Guarantees Act or under circumstances deemed exceptional by the Museum after adequate consultation.

The Museum will provide a full refund in the situation of where an event is cancelled.

Ticketholders consent to being filmed and/or recorded as members of the audience.

Tickets may not be re-sold for a premium or used for advertising, promotion or other commercial purposes without written consent of the Museum. If a ticket is sold or used in breach of this condition, the bearer of the ticket shall be refused entry to the Museum event.

Photographic identification may be required before entry to some exhibitions and events.

Please keep your ticket as proof of entry.

The Museum reserves the right to refuse entry to any visitor to the Museum, or any part thereof.
