All your Christmases have come at once.

Whether you're planning an office knees-up, an end of year get-together with friends or even a special Christmas date, Auckland Museum’s Christmas Soirée has it covered. Because this year, we’ll be hosting two unique celebrations on one night of fun, festivity and fantasy.

The evening begins as you step into the newly transformed South Atrium, sparkling with Christmas lights. You’ll be greeted with a complimentary tipple on arrival and from there on, just like pulling a Christmas cracker, you get to choose which end you want.

There’s something magical about the museum at night and especially on a night like this.

South: Cool and contemporary
If you like your Christmas festivities with a modern vibe, the South Atrium is the place to be. You’ll be among the first to enjoy our spectacular, newly renovated space, decked out for the evening with special Christmas lighting. The new Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café will be open all night, then it’s just a matter of dancing the night away with sounds served up by a live band and DJ.

North: Timeless and traditional
If you love everything that’s nostalgic about Christmas, make your way north to the Grand Foyer and get ready to party like it’s 1899. Our Victorian-themed Christmas party comes straight from the pages of a Charles Dickens novel (without the ghosts, of course). At the foot of the sweeping grand staircase and surrounded by towering columns adorned with twinkling lights, it’s the perfect setting for our colourful characters and parlour games. Order a bubbles from the bar and soak in the atmosphere, complete with classic tunes from our resident piano player.

During the evening, the galleries will be open, complete with festive lighting and music. Feel free to stroll between the two parties, exploring the collections along the way. Our popular photo booth will be ready, complete with themed costumes and props, for a fun memento of your evening.

We have a great line up of talent sure to entertain and get you moving during the event. Acts include:

Live band - The Meteors
The South Atrium will play host to the first gig of the night in the newly refurbished space from 8 - 9.30 pm. This is where the party starts!

DJ Andy JV will be playing in our newly transformed South Atrium venue, from 9.30 - 10.30 pm. Come prepared to dance to some top hip hop, soul and funk, house and classic beats.

Pianist Ludwig Treviranus will be playing in the Grand Foyer setting the festive tone, and may even get you singing along to some Christmas carols. Don't worry, audience participation is completely voluntary.

Leave the sleigh at home
Make a night of it and grab a cab or hop on public transport. We'll have a special collection area set up on the night for taxis and ride-share services to ensure you get home safely. Please plan ahead and ensure you travel safely to and from the event.

If you do choose to drive, the Museum carpark will be available for paid parking during the event. The first 30 minutes are free - enter the carpark from Maunsell Road, located on the Newmarket side of the Domain.

Please note, entry on the night is via the southern entrance of the Museum.

Food & Beverage
Tuitui Museum Bistro & Café will be open from 7pm serving shared plates and a full bar menu. Please note, each ticket includes a complimentary beverage which will be handed out in the South Atrium from 7pm.

Our newly renovated Museum Store will be open during the event for any last-minute gift shopping.

Christmas is a time for sharing, so grab a group of friends or your weary office manager and share some well-earned festive cheer at After Hours at the Museum: Christmas Soirée.
