On January 8, 2020, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps deliberately shot down Ukraine Airline Flight 752, minutes after takeoff from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport. The plane was struck by two surface to air missiles and crashed in a field in the outskirts of Tehran, claiming the lives of all 176 passengers and crew. This was an unprecedented incident in aviation history: never before had a country's own military shot down a civilian aircraft leaving its own capital city airport. Among the victims were 63 Canadian citizens, as well as nationals from Ukraine, Sweden, Afghanistan and the UK.

752 is not a number follows Hamed Esmaeilion's quest for justice in the aftermath of losing his wife and daughter in this tragedy. His quiet life is transformed into a fight for justice as he's caught up in a web of geopolitical intrigue, international politics and legal complexities.

752 Is Not A Number is presented in partnership with Voice of Iranians (VOI) and Iranian Women in NZ (IWIN).

Voice of Iranians

Voice of Iranians

Voice of Iranians is dedicated to amplifying the voices of those fighting for democracy against brutal oppression by the Iranian regime. Our mission is to empower New Zealanders to join the Woman, Life, Freedom Revolution.

The murder of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini by Iran's morality police ignited a revolution across Iran and the world to overthrow the Islamic Republic, the radical theocracy that has reigned over the country since 1979. Since then there have been renewed calls on the New Zealand government to cut diplomatic ties with Iran and designate the Islamic Republic's parallel military body, the IRGC, as a terrorist entity.

+More About Voice of Iranians

The IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) is the main body responsible for violence against Iran's peaceful protestors. It's also the Middle East's biggest sponsor of terrorism, funding groups like Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Assad Regime. As well as supplying drones to Russia they've conducted terrorist attacks and assassinations in more than 20 countries. 752 Is Not A Number chronicles IRGC's deliberate shooting down of passenger flight 752 shortly after takeoff from Tehran in January 2020, killing all 176 people onboard. It highlights the Islamic Republic's malign nature as officials try to pervert the course of justice through lies, destruction of evidence and intimidating victims' families.

The Iran regime and the IRGC are a grave threat to international safety. VOI continues to call on future New Zealand governments and leaders to stand with the people of Iran as they fight not just for their own freedom, but for a safer, more peaceful international community.
