Come with us as we take a deep dive millions of years back in time to meet some of the most incredible creatures to ever swim the ocean depths. 

Following on from the internationally-applauded Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo™, The Erth team have gathered together a playful group of prehistoric sea creatures to join their giant aquarium. 

Now, after delighting audiences around the world, this amazing theatre experience is coming to Auckland Museum for a very limited time and you’re invited to take a dip!

Dive in and get up close to these incredible prehistoric sea creatures in a fun, immersive introduction to the fascinating world of palaeontology. Big, and unmistakably ‘alive’, the animals of Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium will delight curious minds from ages 5 years and up.

Session times
Thursday-Monday: 10.30AM, 12PM & 2PM.
Tuesdays: 10.30AM & 12PM (9AM for Relaxed Performances)
No sessions on Wednesdays.

*Erth’s Prehistoric Aquarium is recommended for ages 5+. Children aged 4 and under are welcome. However, if you wish your child 4 and under to have their own seat, please purchase them a child 5-13 ticket. Otherwise, they will be expected to sit on an adult’s lap.

Arrival Information
Enter via the South Atrium entrance, Te Ao Mārama. You can access the auditorium by taking the lifts to Level 2; your tickets will be scanned there. Parking around the Museum can be busy during school holidays, so please plan to arrive extra early or take public transport. We recommend you arrive at the auditorium 15 minutes before the show start time.

This show is general admission. Shows are 40 minutes long.

Show your ticket at the Museum Store to receive a 10% discount on sea creature merchandise.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

+Will there be allocated seating?

The event is general admission. Depending on COVID-19 alert levels, should there be mandated social distancing measures in place, our host will assist with appropriately distanced seating.

+Will my children aged 4 and under have their own seat?

If you wish your younger children to have their own seat, you will need to purchase them a $15 ticket of their own. Otherwise, they will be expected to sit on an adult’s knee.

+Will there be door sales if I have friends who would like to come but haven’t booked?

If we don’t sell out prior to the event, and COVID-19 restrictions permitting, door sales will be available each day at the ticket desks located in Te Ao Mārama South Atrium and Grand Foyer.

+How do we get into the Museum?

Please enter the Museum via the southern entrance.

Please allow extra time for travel, parking, and scanning of your My Vaccine Pass upon entry, as summer holidays are a peak time at the Museum. Once you have entered the Museum, please take the lifts to Level 2 to our auditorium, where you will be greeted, and your tickets will be scanned. Please have these available either printed or on your mobile device before you arrive.

+Will I be able to access to the show if I’m late?

Yes, we will not be operating a lockout policy on the show. Our event host located at the venue entrance will be able to assist you in locating seats.

+Will I be able to leave the show once it’s started, i.e., to go to the bathroom?

Of course, just exit through the door you entered through and ask our event host located at the auditorium entrance to direct you to the bathrooms.

+Will I be able to take photos or videos during the show?

No photography or videos is permitted during the show.

+Will the performers be wearing masks?

The puppeteers who may come out into the audience will be masked, but the host will not be.

+How should we get there?

We encourage you to use public and active transport options where possible. Parking at the Museum and in the Domain can be in high demand during busy periods such as school holidays. We also have limited paid parking available in the Museum's underground car park - see here for full details on transport options and parking details.

Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes before the performance starts.

+Will there be a coat / bag check?

We have paid electronic self-service lockers in Te Ao Mārama South Atrium, in which you can store your bags and coats, payable by electronic transaction only.

+Can I eat or drink in the auditorium?

Food and drink are not allowed in the auditorium. You can bring in a water bottle, but if you’d like to eat or drink your own snacks, you can use the Kai Room located on the ground floor, before or after the show.
