Frequently asked questions

+What is this?

The Wildlife Selfie Safari is an actor-led tour where kids and their adults are led on a guided journey around the Museum to discover some amazing wildlife that lurks within the walls. It’s all about following clues, hunting down species, discovering cool facts, completing missions, shooting selfies and acting like an animal – literally.

+Who is it for?

Wildlife Selfie Safari is perfect for kids aged 6 years and up and their adults. Is there an upper age limit? Absolutely not, there’s something for all ages provided you are game.

+Can I drop my kids off?

Nope, sorry. All kids must be accompanied by an adult – the idea is that kids and adults work together. No more than 5 kids to 1 adults please.

+Where can I park?

You can park for free, subject to availability, in the Auckland Domain.

We also have secure undercover paid parking at the Museum, with your first 30 minutes free. Enter from Maunsell Road. Please note that due to construction work, there will be no direct access into the Museum from the underground park. It is a short walk from the carpark to the Grand Foyer entrance.

Whatever you decide, please give yourself extra time to find a park in the school holidays – it’s a jungle out there!

+Where do we meet?

Enter through the Grand Foyer at the north of the building, and get your ticket scanned at the visitor desks. Once this is done, our host will tell you where to wait.

+Where can I leave my stuff?

Although this is a safari, please don’t come packed for three weeks in the jungle. You can take small handbags into the galleries with you, but there’ll be a secure cage for you to leave any other belongings while on the tour.

+How long is the Wildlife Selfie Safari?

We’ll have you back to civilisation within an hour, and then you are free to explore the galleries in your own time. Don’t forget to check out the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition.
