Andy Brown is an archaeologist who has worked for the past 15 years in research and commercial archaeology in New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Andy completed his undergraduate and Masters degrees in archaeology at the University of Otago and his PhD at the Institute of Archaeology, University College London, where he focused on understanding the emergence of Maori culture in New Zealand. Upon completion of his PhD Andy was awarded a prestigious Leverhulme Early Career post-doctoral award, which was based at Bournemouth University. In 2019 Andy returned to New Zealand with his family and settled in Whangarei, where he runs a commercial archaeology company.
The event is in partnership with the New Zealand Archaeological Association, a national organisation for archaeology with a membership spanning professionals, amateurs, students, organisations, businesses and institutions involved or interested in archaeology and heritage. NZAA aims to advance the knowledge and practice of archaeology though encouraging public and professional engagement, undertaking advocacy, and providing access to Archsite, the national Site Recording Scheme database.
