  • Lawrence Everad Ball (WWII 474804) was born January 21, 1910. He was the ninth of eleven children of Harry Ball (21.07.1870 - 8.09.1960) and Elizabeth Amelia (née Hall). He first worked in Herberts Ltd, drapers in Timaru. He played the saxophone in dance bands and the territorial band and played rep hockey for South Canterbury.
    He served in the NZ Army in WWII N.Z. Medical Corps for three years serving in Egypt and Italy.
    He married (2.4.1934) Florence Jean née Begg ((1912 - 1993). They had three children - Brian John (1935- 2016), Margaret Ann (Ruddenklau 1938-2014) and John William (b: 1942). Lawrie worked for CFCA (Canterbury Farmers Co-op Ass.) department store in Waimate from 1936 to 1973 becoming store manager. They retired to Christchurch where he enjoyed gardening, golf and bowls until his death on 6 June 1996.
