  • Uncle Don had been a member of the Australian Territorial Forces, whilst a resident in Australia, prior to WWII. He was a very clever chap (an Inventor and University trained, plastics expert), who throughout his Life was always seeking to improve things. I have a series of recordings that I made from my Uncle, a year or so, prior to his death, relating to his experiences throughout WWII. These includes his anti-tank operations in Northern Greece, at the time of the German invasion and before he was captured. During captivity he "swapped" his identity with a NZ Officer in order to assist with that Officer's successful escape. That was due in part to the fact that both members families had previously known each other before the War. See Official History of NZ in the Second World War " Prisoners of War" , Page 292, Footnote 2 Capt D. J. RIddiford (6th Field Regt) MC. .
