  • Defence Force service number:25110.
    Lawrence enlisted for WW11 at Pareoa on 9 February 1940. At that time he was a labourer working for A.L Patrick, 23 Wrights Buildings, Shortland Street, Auckland and lived at 10A Walters Road, Mt Eden.
    He left New Zealand for Egypt on 27th August 1940, arriving on 1 October 1940. He served in the Middle East, mainly in the 4th and 32nd Field Regiments as a Bombardier.
    He returned to New Zealand, ex HMV "Nieuw Amsterdam", departing Egypt on 15 June 1943 and arriving in Wellington on 2 July 1943. He was discharged as a Corporal at Te Aroha on 15 January 1944 having spent 2 years 320 days overseas.
    New Zealand Defense force records show his name as Lawrence Desmond Dell.

    Died 7th June 1985 aged 69 years.
