  • Dear Dad, ANZAC DAY 2024 is tomorrow and is the official day of remembrance but it doesn’t take this special day for me to be thinking about you and your time as a soldier doing your part to help give this country the freedom we all enjoy. We, especially, your family, are so proud and thankful to you and all your fellow soldiers for what you all endured on our behalf.
Love you Dad, your son David.

  • Hi Dad, thinking of you as always and missing you dearly. It’s ANZAC Day 2023 and we are currently on the Gold Coast in Australia house sitting so will be celebrating you and your amazing contribution to the 2nd World War effort. As a young fella I always used to like when you would bring out your Army kit and show me the items in it, such as old maps of Rome and Italy and tell me how you came by them and the stories behind them. I miss those special times with you. I know you only told me of your good experiences of the war but I knew only too well that you and your fellow soldiers suffered the grim reality of death and destruction which you tended to keep to yourself. To me Dad you are a hero and you deserved every medal you were awarded and I know there should have been more.
Thanks for your part in winning mine and our country’s freedom. RIP.
    Your loving son David.
    LEST WE FORGET.

  • Hi Dad, it’s ANZAC DAY 2022. I am celebrating the fact that you, after such a traumatic time overseas fighting for our country and world piece, made it back safely to NZ, married Mum and had us lucky children. We all love and miss you and are so proud of you Dad. Marléne and I are at Paradise Point in QLD, Australia on holiday so are following ANZAC Services over here. We are very impressed with the way Australians equally include NZ as ANZACs before RFL and AFL games with the NZ flag, Anthem sung and the Last Post followed by cheering and clapping. It’s very moving. It is great that the COVID pandemic has eased enough to be able to have the ANZAC Services again this year.
On the other hand world piece is once again threatened as President Putin of Russia is invading Ukraine and there is a possible threat of nuclear warfare.
Rest In Peace Dad, your loving son David.

  • To my dearest Dad. It is another Anzac day 2021 and am thinking of you. Have been busy typing up your war diaries to give each of us your children a copy. Oh how I wish I had known about them before you passed away and I could have gone through them with you. What harrowing experiences you had
to deal with and also some funny anecdotes thrown in. The comaraderie and friendships you made with your fellow army buddies will be remembered also the sacrifices made by you all to give us the freedom we have today. We are all very proud to be called your children.
May you rest in peace . WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

  • Dear Dad,
It’s 2021 and nearing ANZAC Day once again. Things in the world are even worse than last year as far as this pandemic is concerned. Many, many deaths.....unbelievable! We are so lucky to be here in New Zealand.
Memories of you getting ready for ANZAC Days in the past are flooding in. So proud to see you march in your later years. Feeling so sad for not seeing you march in a lot more parades. Not till I got a bit older and wiser that I really realised what you went through and how I should have shown you my appreciation by turning up to support you marching in the ANZAC parades.
Thank you for your part in helping make this a free and great country to live in.
    Your loving son, David.

  • Dear Dad,
Well, 2020 ANZAC DAY is a very different one to any other, as the world is experiencing a global pandemic named ‘covid19’ and we are all in isolation within our homes and are not able to march on your behalf as normal. We instead will be standing at the end of our driveways at dawn, (me in Christchurch), in order to show our respect and thank you for your service. We are not allowed to be within two metres of each other, it is such a strange time and a strange world Dad.
Love and miss you always Dad.
    Your Son, David

  • Here it is, ANZAC DAY 2019, and I had the absolute privilege of marching on your behalf at the dawn service at Waikumete today. It was very humbling and an honour to represent you wearing your engineers jacket, tie, and well deserved medals. I often think of you in the war and the horrific conditions that you all endured....which we can only imagine. Thank you for doing your part in the war, and helping to give us a free and better life.

Love you Dad and I am very proud to be your son.

    David.
