  • Ross A Hill was my mother’s (Judy Hill (née) Garratt) father. My grandfather. He was the most interesting person growing up. Kind loving wise and beautiful. Ross spent many years as a magician and he was a well respected founding member of NZSOM. He was very involved in Boxing, training young fighters and taking them to the pacific Islands to fight. He helped establish the Auckland Boxing Association. His widow Dorothy (Joy) Hill my grandmother still alive at 95 in 2020 lived an honest hard working typical NZ life. Ross was my Best Buddy growing up & influenced my can do anything attitude. Some of my fondest memories was sitting at the foot of his arm chair listening about the war in a manner that was palatable to a child & spending hours looking through his war books. He took me to many ANZAC parades in Howick and Dawn parades at the museum. I could hope to achieve half of his lifetime
