  • My dad enlisted when he was underage. I understand this was not uncommon. In retrospect he suffered the effects of malaria and other related health issues for the rest of his life. He returned from war to a wife and very young child so getting on his feet was a real challenge. Dad spent his life involved in community service. Rugby football coaching and administration, the resurrection of The Auckland Anniversary Regatta, the building and administration of Kohimarama Yacht Club and for over 30 years as President of Tamaki Yacht Club. He was also involved in Rotary. He suffered a rare form of arthritis in his old age. His wife Winsome is in her hundred and first year. She remembers everything and is a tremendous resource. Her speciality is Waiheke Island, Onetangi in particular. Lest We Forget.
