Hello Dad , a short note for you. Your army contribution was a very large part of our family. You volunteered to fight in a horrendous war on the other side of the world which is a testament to your desire to protect our precious little country and your dear ones. You left a young wife and son, not knowing when you would return. You related lot of stories, often quite funny (the horrible ones were left out) One of my favourites was when you and Freyberg were strolling down by the Po river at dusk, and somehow strayed behind enemy lines. You were conscious that there was a very large ammunition dump nearby which the allies had in their sights when he turned to you and said "Can you hear the Nightingale singing Harold?" I think your own fav story was the crossing of the Po River on Anzac day using the NZ army engineers bailey bridges. We heard it every Anzac Day. and I always loved it.
