  • In 1943, George Lochhead was tasked with selecting two teams of New Zealanders and Australians from PG 57 Gruppignano to work at two camps 103/6 Ampezzo and 103/7 Sauris in the Dolomites, the former mining for the construction of a power station, and the latter creating the dam on Lake Sauris that would provide the water for the station.

Among the men at 103/6 was Arthur Douglas, who had been taught to draw in PG 52. At the end of the war he had his sketches printed and every POW who had worked alongside him got a copy. The booklet "Memories of camp 103/6" lists all the men at 103/6. The men stayed there until September, when they were sent to Germany. AWMM
