Biographical information
Represented Marlborough at rugby 1939-40. A prominent referee, significantly he refereed the Australia v New Zealand test match at the Epsom Showgrounds in 1958, one of only two occasions a test match was not held at Eden Park. He was remarkable for the fact that he refereed with just one arm having lost it in an explosion while serving with the 38th NZ Field Regiment at Guadalcanal in the Pacific theatre in 1943.
