  • Served in the Royal Berkshire Hussars for five years and the City of London Artillery prior to the First World War. Also a physical instructor with the New Zealand Flying School run by the Walsh brothers.

    Served overseas from approximately December 1914 to October 1915. He was sent home after having been wounded at Gallipoli. He was then posted to the New Zealand Permanent Staff and was attached to several different units within New Zealand, possibly to provide physical instruction given his occupational background. AWMM
