    • Lance Corporal Dawson served in the South African War, but not as part of the New Zealand Contingent. AWMM
    • George Howard Dawson left New Zealand around August 1899, having sold his interests in "Firefly" a racehorse to his future brother in law Andrew Robertson. He enlisted in the Border Horse in March 1900 and served until October 1900 when he was demobbed. After returning to New Zealand briefly in 1904 with his wife Anna, he returned to England and South Africa, where he died in 1933.
