    An Auckland medical practitioner, Dr. Cyril James Anthony Griffin. of Epsom, has died after a short illness, in his sixtieth year. He was a son of the late Rev. Cornelius Griffin, and was born at Waimate, South Canterbury. At the outbreak of the last war Dr. Griffin was a house surgeon at the Evelina Hospital for, Sick Children in London and was attached to the special reserve of the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was called up at once and went .through the retreat from Mons as a lieutenant attached to a cavalry division. His service in France covered the whole period of the war. and he was awarded .the D.S.O. and was twice mentioned in despatches. He was for some time with the army of occupation in Cologne, with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel. Public - Lorraine Mona - Researcher - 14 December 2023 - OBITUARY
