  • Did not embark overseas on active service. The soldiers who enlisted in the 4th & 5th contingents did not leave New Zealand due to the armistice.

Listed on the Cook Islands Roll of Honour Board, RSA Rarotonga, as 'Pte Tima M'. Source: WW1 NZEF ANZAC Soldiers Research Project.

Next of kin/Family member/s: Vainetukai (Wife, born Atiu), Tima (Father, born Aitutaki), Tereau (Mother, bom Aitutaki)

Notes: "Mareto" is spelt incorrectly on his headstone as "Mereto". This will be replaced by the CWGC at their expense in due course. Military headstone records "Aged 40" on headstone, although on enlistment in 1918 in the year prior to his death, his age was recorded as 26. AWMM
