    • Did not embark overseas. AWMM
    • Thomas was the son of Ben and Sarah Cropp [nee Wadsworth], one of 9 children. Thomas appealed his conscription on religious grounds but ultimately served in the medical corps at Awapuni Camp. He may well have been on board a hospital ship ready to be sent away when the war ended. He served after the armistice at Sunnyside Hospital helping out during the flu epidemic. His brother Ben also appealed on grounds of having to look after his fathers farm. Another brother, Alf served and was killed on the Somme.
Thomas was a lay reader and preached his first sermon at age 16 years. He is remembered as having read the entire Bible more than 30 times so his appeal against war service was certainly firmly founded on his religious beliefs. Public - Peter - Researcher - 20 February 2022 - family records
