    • George Lane was born in Yarpole, Herefordshire in 1819 to Thomas and Ann Lane.

      George is said to of had brothers who fought alongside him in the Crimean War. He was a pay master Sargent in the Herefordshire Militia during this time and possibly left the force on the 27th of August, 1855.

      On the 22nd of September, 1857 he married Susan Jones in Wellington, England and boarded the Cresswell for Nelson. He had a family of five sons and four daughters.

      Little is known about his New Zealand War service. In his obituary it stares he was a drill instructor.

      George died on the 2nd of August, 1915 aged 96 years. He’s buried in Omaka Cemetery Public - Thomas - Direct descendant - 11 March 2020 - Family
